Invisalign

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic treatment that works to straighten teeth and correct dentition. The process uses a series of clear aligner trays that are relatively invisible to the naked eye. Unlike traditional braces that have metal wires and brackets, Invisalign is clear so that it’s more suitable for older teens and adults. Invisalign treatment can take anywhere from six months to about two years to complete.

Why is Invisalign needed?

Invisalign is normally recommended and needed if a patient is experiencing orthodontic problems. You might have spaced, crooked or overcrowded teeth and are unhappy with the way your smile looks. Patients with underbites, overbites and open bites can benefit from Invisalign treatment as well. Invisalign is a more suitable option for older teens and adults who may not want anyone knowing they’re wearing braces.

What makes you a good candidate for Invisalign?

Invisalign is ideal for most patients, but an exam and consultation will help us to determine if it’s the right choice for you. We will take a series of x-rays that will be used as part of your orthodontic treatment planning. We will then be able to begin the process of fitting you with Invisalign trays. In order for Invisalign to be successful, you must wear the trays for a minimum of 22 hours a day.

What can be expected with Invisalign treatment?

To begin, we’ll have a consultation with you to create a personalized treatment plan. You will then come in for impressions that are used to create brand new Invisalign trays. You’ll be instructed on how long to wear the trays and how to remove them in order to clean your teeth. You will need to wear your trays for most of the day and night in order for treatment to be effective. You will then come back in a few weeks later so that new impressions and trays are made for you. You can expect Invisalign treatment to take anywhere from six months to about two or three years depending on the severity of your orthodontic problems.

"Every day I look forward to seeing a patient that has been reluctant to come to the dentist. It is very rewarding to be able to give that person the smile they deserve. I do this in hopes that they will share that smile with others."
