Gum Disease Treatment

What is Gum Disease Treatment?

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss and is completely preventable and treatable. Periodontal disease can be treated with both non-surgical as well as surgical options. Most commonly, the disease is treated with regular scaling and root planing cleanings performed by a licensed hygienist. Other treatment options are available to help stop the spread of infection and reduce the size of the gum pockets that have formed around the teeth as part of the disease.

Why is Gum Disease Treatment needed?

If left untreated, gum disease can and will get worse. As gum disease worsens, pockets form and grow in size around each tooth. Bacteria and plaque is allowed to get into these small pockets, making it nearly impossible to keep the gums clean. The infection continues to get worse, eventually leading to both bone and tooth loss.

What makes you a good candidate for Gum Disease Treatment?

If you have gum disease, you’re already a good candidate to begin treatment. If you’re not sure whether or not you have gum disease, we can check your gums during your bi-annual appointments. If the gums are inflamed, bleeding and if there are small pockets around some or all of the teeth, this is a sign that gingivitis or gum disease is present. We can create a treatment plan that’s right for your oral health needs.

What can be expected with Gum Disease Treatment?

Gum disease treatment is specific to each individual patient. Patients with mild gum disease will benefit from regular scaling and root planings done in our office. We offer periodontal trays that deliver medication deep into the gingival pockets to stop the spread of bacterial infection. For advanced periodontal disease, surgery may be necessary to stop the spread of the disease and protect vulnerable tooth and bone. At every step of the way, we will educate you on which treatment options are available and what to expect with each of them.

If you are interested in gum disease treatment and want to learn more about the options we have available to you, call our office today and we’ll work to get you in for an appointment.

"Every day I look forward to seeing a patient that has been reluctant to come to the dentist. It is very rewarding to be able to give that person the smile they deserve. I do this in hopes that they will share that smile with others."
