Dental Crowns (Ceramic / Porcelain / Same Day CEREC)

What are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is used on a tooth that has become compromised. A tooth is considered to be compromised if it has broken, cracked, chipped or fractured. Teeth that have large fillings may eventually need to be crowned to protect the overall integrity of the tooth. You can think of a dental crown as being both cosmetic and restorative in nature.

Why are Dental Crowns needed?

A dental crown is matched to your existing dentition so that it blends flawlessly into your smile. We offer ceramic, porcelain and CEREC (same-day) crowns that are right for your dental needs. Some reasons you’d need a crown include:

• A tooth has cracked or broken
• A tooth has fractured or chipped
• A tooth recently had a root canal
• A tooth has a very large filling
• A dental implant was recently placed

What makes you a good candidate for Dental Crowns?

The dental crown procedure itself is relatively noninvasive and requires no incisions or sutures. The crown helps to strengthen the existing tooth and helps in regaining functionality to that particular side of the mouth. Because we offer same-day CEREC crown technology, you won’t even need to come back for a second appointment. Most of our patients who need a dental crown are good candidates to have the procedure done.

What can be expected during the procedure for Dental Crowns?

You’ll first receive local anesthetic so that we can begin the procedure. We then file down and smooth the tooth to make room for the crown to fit on top of it. Impressions are taken and sent off to a local lab where the permanent crown is made for you. For CEREC crowns, we take digital impressions of the tooth and use a specialized machine to create a brand new permanent crown in-office while you wait. The crown is then placed on top of the tooth and smoothed down for a comfortable fit.

"Every day I look forward to seeing a patient that has been reluctant to come to the dentist. It is very rewarding to be able to give that person the smile they deserve. I do this in hopes that they will share that smile with others."
